Therapy Session/ Counselling
One-to-one professional counselling tailored to your emotional needs, drawing on CBT, DBT and mindfulness-based techniques to help you heal, cope and grow.
This is the session most people start with. One conversation, forty-five minutes, with a qualified psychologist who has time to listen properly before offering anything.
You don't need a diagnosis, a clear question, or a tidy account of what's wrong. Plenty of people arrive able to say only that something has felt off for a while. That's a workable starting point, and often it's what the first session is for.
The approach draws on cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and mindfulness-based work — but which of those is useful depends entirely on what you bring. Nothing is applied to you from a template.
Who this is for
- You've been carrying something for a while and it isn't lifting on its own
- Something specific has happened and you'd like help making sense of it
- You've noticed a pattern in how you react and want to understand where it comes from
- You're not sure therapy is for you and would like to find out
What happens in a session
- 1
We start with what brought you here — in whatever order it comes out
- 2
Your psychologist asks about the background: what's been happening, what you've already tried
- 3
Together you name what seems to be keeping the difficulty in place
- 4
You leave with a sense of what the work would involve, and often one thing to try
What you might take from it
- A clearer picture of what's actually going on, not just how it feels
- Language for something you haven't been able to describe
- A sense of whether ongoing sessions would help
- One practical thing to try before the next conversation
Good to know
This is talk therapy with a psychologist, not psychiatric care — we can't prescribe or adjust medication, and we'll say so plainly if medication looks worth discussing with a doctor. Change usually takes more than one session, but there's no obligation to book a second.
