Couple Therapy Session

For couples exploring their dynamics together — differences, areas of conflict, and how you communicate when it matters.

All services

Eighty minutes with both of you and a psychologist who isn't on either side. Longer than our other sessions, because two people need more room than one.

Most couples arrive with the same argument they've had many times. The aim isn't to settle it. It's to look at how the argument runs — what starts it, what each of you does next, and what you're each actually protecting underneath the position you're defending.

You don't need to be in crisis to come. Plenty of couples use this to understand a difference they've never managed to talk about calmly.

Who this is for

  • The same disagreement keeps coming back in different clothes
  • You communicate very differently and it keeps causing damage
  • Something specific has happened and you're both unsure how to move past it
  • You're deciding something significant together and can't get to a clear conversation

What happens in a session

  1. 1

Both of you describe what's happening, one at a time and uninterrupted

  2. 2

Your psychologist reflects back the pattern as an outside observer sees it

  3. 3

You look at what each of you is defending, underneath the surface argument

  4. 4

You practise the conversation differently, in the room, with support

What you might take from it

  • The dynamic described in terms you both recognise
  • Hearing something your partner has said before but you haven't been able to take in
  • A way of starting the difficult conversation that doesn't escalate immediately
  • A clearer sense of whether ongoing couples work would help

Good to know

Both partners need to be willing to attend — this doesn't work if one has been persuaded into it. Your psychologist isn't a judge and won't declare either of you right. Where there's abuse or safety concern in a relationship, joint sessions aren't appropriate, and we'll help find the right support instead.
